Which headsets are supported by AirBuddy?
AirBuddy 3 supports Apple and Beats headsets with a W1, H1, H2, or newer Apple wireless chip. It can also display limited information and controls for many Bluetooth headsets from other manufacturers.
AirBuddy relies on device information and controls provided by macOS. A recently released headset or feature can require a later macOS update even when AirBuddy recognizes the model.

- AirPods Pro (all generations)
- AirPods Max (all generations)
AirBuddy supports model-specific features when they are available to the Mac, including listening modes, Adaptive Audio, Personalized Volume, Spatial Audio, in-ear state, and charging-case information.
Recent charging cases, including supported AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3 cases, can report battery information independently in some situations. Older charging cases usually require the earbuds to be inside with the lid open.

Some Beats models don’t include the same Apple wireless chip as AirPods. Pairing, nearby status, and automatic switching can differ, but battery and connection features remain available when the device reports them to macOS.
Software requirements
AirBuddy 3 requires macOS 14 or later. For the best compatibility:
- Install the latest AirBuddy and macOS updates.
- Keep AirPods or Beats firmware current.
- For AirPods Pro 3 and Powerbeats Fit, use macOS 15.7 or later when possible.
If a recent model has the wrong name or icon, open AirBuddy settings, select Advanced, click Reload Asset Cache, then restart AirBuddy.
Headsets from other manufacturers
Compatibility is limited to the information and controls that a device provides to macOS. AirBuddy can usually display a third-party headset while it is connected, and it can show a battery level when macOS reports one.
